There are half a billion results on Google telling you how to build confidence. The easiest way to appear more confident is to feel more confident. Here are four simple tips to help you start feeling more confident today.
Appear More Confident by Feeling More Confident
Every skill you need to build your business – sales, leadership, problem solving, networking – improves with confidence. Confidence attracts and inspires others in sales and leadership situations. Confidence enables you to feel more empowered and competent in problem solving situations. And if you feel confident, you don’t have to worry at all about whether you appear confident to others – that’s a natural outcome.
Here are a couple tips to help yourself feel more confident.
Set yourself up for small wins and new experiences.
Experiencing small wins will help build confidence, create momentum, and provide new evidence to release old beliefs. It’s easy to say, “I can’t reach my goal by picking up the phone one time”, and that may be true. But if you can’t feel good about the first step, you’re putting yourself on a tough path.
Small steps add up to big wins. Learn to celebrate the process and you’ll find yourself where you want to be.
Give yourself some credit.
There’s almost certainly a lot that you are good at and that you’ve accomplished. If you struggle with self-confidence, you might also be explaining a lot of it away and discounting what you’ve done. Despite what others say, you “know better”.
But that’s just one subjective opinion, even if it is yours. Allow yourself to acknowledge the good in what you’ve done and what you’re capable of, even if it feels a little uncomfortable.
Learn to take a compliment.
While discounting your own positive experience is unnecessary and unhelpful, discounting positive feedback from others is rude and hurtful. It makes people feel good to say nice things. Don’t tell them they’re wrong and steal their joy. Thank them and consider that maybe they see something in you that you don’t yet see.
Look for things to feel good about.
Yes, you’d like your business to be growing faster. Yes, you wish you’d handled that situation better. But don’t let what you could have done take a way from what you did. You’re building your business. You’re putting yourself out there. You’re taking risks and trying new things.
Allow yourself to feel good about what you’re doing, not just be critical and judgemental of everything you’re not doing or could be doing better.
