Release Pain And Struggle By Letting Go Of Past Anger
Letting go of past anger and pain is an absolutely critical, frustratingly simple, and often incredibly difficult part of the healing process.
Critical because it’s your clinging to past pain and old beliefs and behaviors that’s keeping you from grabbing hold of what you want today.
Simple because you only need to stop doing something that’s been hurting you.
Difficult because even if you recognize how much something is hurting you, and you may not even fully realize this yet, breaking bad habits forces us to work against our strengths. We need to unlearn, break connections, and give up meaning in order that we can essentially start again with a fresh slate.
When it comes to letting go of emotional pain, there is a process. The key thing to know going in is that anger and sorrow don’t simply disappear because you ignore them. To “let go” means to fully allow and experience yourself to feel what you’ve been avoiding – often with good cause.
But still, the process is simple.
1. Acknowledge the pain and recognize the impact.
2. Allow yourself to feel whatever you need to feel.
3. Invite the negative emotions to surface.
4. Fully face the pain of the emotion and the underlying injury.
The legitimate purpose of anger is to destroy injustice and prevent harm. If allowed to serve that purpose, it can then give way to sorrow or disappointment over the injury or loss. Our ability to grieve and long for more let’s us move through the sorrow and return to our naturally authentic and connected state, which opens us up for happiness and success.
