In this video, I’m going to tell you how your business is like a sail boat and you’re the wind. But don’t worry, I’ll try not to take the metaphor overboard.
How do you maximize your chances of successfully and quickly reaching your goals?
A sail boat is a good analogy for a business. You rely on your skills to navigate sometimes tough and uncharted waters trying to reach a destination that you can’t see, but you know is beyond the horizon waiting for you. At times, it’s smooth sailing. At times you fear getting lost or capsizing.
So how do you maximize your chances of successfully and quickly reaching your goals?
Your business is the boat. You want to make sure that you pick the right boat for the trip. Depending on your destination you may need small and agile, or you may need large and stable.
Many think that the market, sales, revenue, and economic factors provide the wind. I’ll argue they are the opportunity and waters in which you are traveling. A big catch might be the goal, but it doesn’t power the boat. The waters can be cooperative, facilitating fast travel through smooth seas, or they can be challenging and push you to your limits of survival.
Your skills, strategies, and techniques are the crew that guide your boat with action. This is where business owners typically feel the most comfortable. It’s the domain of everything we can directly see and feel in control of.
But without power to drive your business forward, you’re dead in the water. So what is the wind that drives you?
Emotion is the wind that drives you. Emotion is something that moves inside of you. It’s energy in motion.
Without emotion, your boat is dead in the water. You can pull out the oars of will power and discipline, and those can move you forward, but they are slow and exhausting.
And if the winds are blowing, they may not be in your favor. Fear, worry, anxiety, and doubt will try to blow us off course or hold us back all together. Forward movement is still possible, but slowly, only with tremendous effort, and at great expense.
But, if you can focus your passion and positivity toward a clear vision that’s aligned with your core values and beliefs, you create a powerful and steady tailwind that can drive your business forward with great efficiency and speed.
